So other than feeling old in the year 2011, I feel more alive than EVER. I've decided to finally create a blog- for this post, I give accolades to two lovely young ladies who attend a mid-size university around the corner from my apartment. Funny enough, my mom came to visit this summer...we were in Wal-Mart - because that is what we do when she visits. She buys me random things I need for my house like a mat to go in front of my sink or a big cup because I like to drink massive amounts of water ( I honestly think I'm addicted to water...is that possible?).
Anyway, we were looking at face lotions and fake eye lashes and I hear a SCREAM - a full "run-for-your-life killer scream behind me. I turn quickly and two young ladies bum rush me and start shaping my hair in the air with their hands. They didn't touch it until they asked permission and it was over! They were in love with my curly fro- hands all over the place, pulling curls and examing strands of hair...These two girls said, "OMG...your hair!! I am going natural too..how long have you been natural??" I told them three years (they were in high school when I started)...WOW. OLD I AM...they asked if I had a YouTube video or if I blog ...in other words do I share my hair care tips. I thought to myself...could I blog if I wanted too..haha..could I post to YouTube...???? sheesh...I guess I could. I mean Facebook was about as computer saavy as I thought I'd ever be!!
Going through my natural hair journey has been tramatic, inspirational, annoying as hell, and life changing. If I had a hair mentor - yeah, a hair mentor - I would have been relieved...I hope to enrich someones journey. I hope to engage my friends, family, and all those who have faith in me - and my hair...! So here I am...in all my natural hair glory. I hope to share my past, and my continued journey... in all of it's ridiculous glory. Come with me...it'll be fun...:)
Girl I'm going to be commenting everyday, lol. I think it's great! I get made fun of for making hair comments or telling stories about how I help random girls in the store who are clearly lost looking for hair products. I look forward to following you :)
ReplyDeleteYAY! This makes me SO happy...and what are you doing up at 2am! GIRL...
ReplyDeleteIsn't great how a "friendship" or bond can form in the store while pondering over hair products. Its sad but women sometimes don't expect a helping hand or a compliment. Natural hair brings more than loveliness...it allows the Black woman to reconnect!
I live in Germany still. I have 7hours on you :) But yes it does.
