Power behind those voices...

Today was somthing else.  With only a few hours of sleep after watch team Obama win 4 more years, I felt energized to hit the gym this morning.  I walked in LA Fitness with my head high and feeling good.  About 15 minutes into my climb on the stair climber, a gentleman walked in the gym ( a regular) and was walking toward the treadmills infront of the stair climber I was on.

There was another gentleman and two women who know each other and chat every morning with this guy that was just coming in.  As I look up from my workout I make eye contact with the gentleman walking toward the treadmills to meet his friends.  I smile quickly, as I always do and then kept climbing.  In the next instant, this man throws his hand up and points at me (with his entire arm and hand)...then the women he met looked at me and shook their heads vigorously, and then they get off the treadmill and leave to another side of the gym.  Then the other gentleman who was already on the treadmill looked directly at me and shook his head.  I looked behind me knowing there wasn't anyone there, but trying to make I saw them shaking their heads so they'd stop...  But why were they pointing and shaking their heads!!!

I'm so confused, but have very little evidence other than last nights election, and Obama's victory that has would have caused any reaction to me!  I was minding my business!  I had ear phones in too -

I'm CONFUSED.

I plan to continue smiling when I see them each morning at the gym.  I just hope and pray

1. They aren't making assumptions about my vote because of my race and are just openly enraged with me because I am a young person of color...(although of course we know who I voted for...)

OR

2.  They thought my morning greeting was actually a "shove it in your face type smile," because Romney lost.

I think so many on my Right, are used to their privilege and are finding it VERY uncomfortable to hear voices of those marginalized...and even more uncomfortable to discover their is POWER behind those voices.
